This morning session on Day One will put the issue of displacement right on the table with first hand accounts from invited speakers who have all experienced strife, devastation and humanitarian crisis in their homelands and sought to bring about positive change.

The session promises moving tales of adversity as well as heart-warming stories of how they have overcome the odds and worked towards ensuring safer conditions for women in their respective countries.

You will hear the voices of Shreen Abdul Saroor from the Manaar Women’s Foundation in Sri Lanka; Leymah Gbowee from the Women’s Peace and Security Network, Africa; and Suraiya Kamaruzzaman from the Flower Aceh Foundation. Also on hand to share his experiences will be Farai Sevenzo, a journalist and film-maker from Zimbabwe.
