About the conference

The NIEW International Conference 2010 is organised by the NAM (Non-Aligned Movement) Institute for the Empowerment of Women and will be held on the 29th and 30th of November in Kuala Lumpur. It will seek to address the impact of conflict and displacement on women and provide a platform to explore more effective measures to ensure their safety, health and well-being.

The conference hopes to be able to emphasise the importance of engaging displaced women in decision-making regarding their safety and well-being. It will also establish their critical role in post-conflict reconstruction.

Through a series of expert group meetings, panel discussions, round table discussions and workshops, the NIEW International Conference will bring together field workers, women front-liners, NGOs, international and regional organisations, government authorities, academics and all others who are committed to enhancing lives which have been disrupted by conflict, natural disasters and social and political upheaval.

Together, these participants hope to highlight relevant issues and concerns, build momentum for change by focusing on critical issues and explore ways in which women can play a role in decision-making and peace-building efforts.
